Our Mother’s Day DIY Kid’s Craft

Like the majority of you, I can spend hours upon hours pinning cute ideas to do on Pinterest but then after a while I feel like all I have are more pins and great ideas and fewer actual projects that I actually did. Who is with me? Well this year, I wanted to do something cute and homemade for Mother’s Day and I knew Pinterest was the place to go for some inspiration. The DIY project that I decided on took me about 15 minutes and was so worth it. I loved how it turned out, that of course I made myself one in addition to the boys two grandmothers. My husband, Ben, after seeing the project and seeing I made myself one as well said thanks, “I guess I am off the hook now for you for Mother’s Day” Men!

In Texas, taking family pictures in the bluebonnets is an annual tradition. Last year, I never got around to it because I was away the entire month of March for Army training so this year I knew I had to do it. I took the boys one Sunday to a secluded blue bonnet area and after lots of bribing with “special treats” (hey a Mother’s got do what a Mother’s got to do), I loved how the pictures turned out so I wanted to capitalize on it. I found a cute poem on Pinterest and I made my own version of it since the picture I used was the bluebonnet picture. I made the boys make blue bonnets using their finger prints instead of a normal flower but you can do whatever you like.

Here was my orginal inspiration:

The poem is simple and cute:

“The pretty flowers that you see

was made for you by me,

My finger made the flower part,

showing love from my heart”

This is all we did:

After the project was over, I let the boys go wild with finger painting. Sometimes after doing something refined, I find kids need to do something without boundaries and limits. Bonus, I used the fingerpainting for the homemade Mother's Day Cards.

I think the end result was cute. I bought a frame that held two 4×6 pictures in it and placed the picture of the boys on top and on the bottom I placed the actual DIY craft. At the bottom of the poem, you can write Happy Mother’s Day, Happy Grammother’s Day, etc. If you do not like your handwriting you can of course type the poem out too.

What do you all like to do, make or buy gifts for your Mothers? I usually alternate every year. Do you all have any cool Mother’s Day traditions you would like to share?

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mother’s out there…It’s a thankless job but someone’s got to do it. 🙂
